ATIS

Local information about the current conditions at some airports are taped and transmitted continuously so pilots can receive this information before they call the tower. They update this information at least every hour. This way transmissions between the the pilots and the tower are considerably shortened. So before calling the tower for our request to taxi we need to listen to this information. When we do call the tower with our request we say we have the current information, in this case it is "Information India"). This is a scan of the laminated card I use to record the ATIS information.

This little card also contains a diagram of the runways an some common frequencies.

As I listen to the recording I write down some of the information on my laminated card. The rest I memorize. My card now looks something like this:
