Lower Flaps
With the master switch on I can lower the flaps so later I can check for proper operation. This photo shows the wing flap switch just to the right of the red throttle. It is a flat switch somewhat in the shape of the flaps.
To lower the flaps one simply pushes the wing flap switch down. Movement stops the downward travel of the flaps when the spring loaded switch is released. When bringing up the flaps the switch will stay in the up position so that the flaps will come up all the way. If the flaps are to be moved up in stages the switch has to be placed in the neutral position to stop them. This is important if a landing is aborted to bring up the flaps in stages as bringing them up all the way way causes a lot of lift to be lost at once. For preflight purposes I lower the flaps to the 20% mark as shown by the indicator on the post at the left side of the windshield as shown below.
