Check Pitot Opening

Airflow into the pitot is fed to the airspeed indicator. It is electrically heated if icing conditions are suspected. When the airplane is not in use I keep the pitot covered with this cover. I did once find that a bug had nested in the opening.

When I bought the plane it had a metal cap that flipped up when air hit a flap. It didn't always work. The first time I took my wife up it failed on take off and I had to abort the takeoff. I think that is the only time I've aborted a take off.
