I was hoping to get to 2400 hrs. before having to overhaul the engine on 146.  It turns out it made it to 2295 hrs. before an annual inspection revealed one cylinder had no compression.  It seemed to fly ok but it sure needed work.  My feeling was: "Why spend a lot of money fixing one cylinder when the others will need it in short order".  Arizona Air Craftsman overhauled the O-200 Continental  for the amount they said they would and in the time they said they would.  Later, a small oil leak was fixed right away without charge.  In short, I'm very happy with the job they performed on my airplane.
